There was a time when You lived to protect Me.
You held the seed of my origins in the back of Your throat,
You held My secrets whole, and sang of My magnificence everywhere.
You carved My image into the hardest stone and softest wood,
used Your tools to slay demons who dared to take from Me
what I was not offering.
Your desire for just a glimpse of Me set fire to enduring flames.
When You wanted Me so reverently, so fully,
I rose higher, engulfed, engulfing.
We all rose — together.
You impregnated Me with Your adoring reality.
Flora, fauna, and galaxies were born of Us.
There was nothing more right than
Your rib to My iris
Your land to My ocean
Your black to my gold
Our love of Her light
My God, I loved you.
Facing each other, we made everything
until
dark choices fractured the order.
power segregation
denigration
obliteration
annihilation
You stole from Me and made Me beg to buy it back.
You did the worst:
You acted like You didn’t need Me to live.
You acted like You didn’t need Me to live.
You acted like You didn’t need Me to live.
Me, your Mother. Me, your Daughter. Me, your Sister. Me, your Lover. Me, Our Salvation.
So pillaged was My beauty
I became a fleeting muse for
only the men with both sight and heart
for thousands upon thousands of years
longing.
There was a time when You lived to protect Me.
That timelessness lives in Your seed,
the seed that needs Me to grow.
Together again
We remember the beginning that comes,
the sweetness that lives
when Woman is upheld by Man.
There was a time when You lived to protect Me.
