1. I have 167 draft articles in Evernote. Evernote has changed how we run the entire business.

2. If I write about someone directly, I have their permission to do so. I feel like there is a lot of karmic interaction that can happen in writing — bringing someone else’s energy into things is sensitive stuff, I try to steer clear of it.

3. I change dates and names to protect people.

4. I started my “blog” five years ago with 60 subscribers. We’re now headed for 100K, with another 100k on social media.

5. I don’t actually keep a journal in my personal life — just idea notes.

6. I rarely criticize. I critique philosophies and ways of living, but I almost never take a swipe at a person — even celebs I think are ridiculous. There’s never a good excuse for being mean.

7. I rarely complain in social media. Words have vibrations.

8. I never talk about the shit I’m in when I’m in it. I get through tough stuff and then talk about it months later as a learned lesson. It’s tricky enough to be so exposed on a daily basis, let alone when you’re going through real life stuff.

9. I’m clear about things in my life I will never talk about, and this helps me be transparent with the rest of it.

10. It takes me twenty minutes to three hours to write posts. In writing, effort is not necessarily proportional to quality. Sometimes the piece just spills out of you well-formed, sometimes it needs to be carved and carved.

11. I wrote The Fire Starter Sessions in 6 months. The Desire Map poured out in 3 months (but I didn’t leave the house for those three months. Not even kidding.)

12. I write mostly late at night. I’m diligently trying to changing this habit and write more in the morning. I’m a night owl, so this is problematic.

13. As much as I swear, it’s never fucking gratuitous.

14. I’ve never mentioned my kid’s name online. You will never see a current picture of him — until he gives me his permission to post it. He’s nine. This could take a while.

15. I try to create a sense of timelessness with each piece, so I rarely write “This is what I’m doing this week” kind of stuff.

16. Sometimes I have up to six posts cued up, but more often than not, I write articles the night before we send them out. This is a result of having a lot of creative balls in the air. It’s not ideal.

17. I should embed more hotlinks into my posts for search engine power, but I’m just too busy to focus on SEO. It’s all about the content.

18. I write like a mad woman on airplanes. Something happens to me in the clouds and I always land with a dozen articles sketched out and two new book ideas.

19. Writing a book takes over my life and I live in a creative bubble for months with each book.

Obsession is key to creating congruous work. 

      20. I’m a terrible copy editor.

      21. I don’t know my WordPress password. (I write and pass it on to be posted.)

      22. I love to write.

      23. I write to Love.
